1. a. What is physical quantity? How much mass is considered as 1 kg? (1+1)
b. Convert the following units as indicated: (3x1=3)
i. 1700 gram into kilogram
ii. 260 millimeter into meter
iii. 13 hours into seconds
2. a. How are the terms rest and mother relative? (2)
b. Derive the equation s=ut+1/2 at^2. (3)
3. a. Write any two points of difference between acceleration and retardation. (2)
b. A body starts to move from rest which has a uniform acceleration of 3.5 m/s2, what will be its                    final velocity after 30 seconds? Also calculate the distance covered by the body. (3)
4. a. Study the given diagram and calculate the effort required to lift the stone. (2)


b. Give reason: (2x1.5=3)
i. The effort arms of metal cutting scissors are made longer than that of cloth cutting                                 scissors.
ii. Output work is always less than that of the input work in a machine.
5. a. What is relative density? A piece of wood floats on water but an iron nail does not, why? (1+1)
b. Two water tanks 'A' and 'B' with the capacity 1000 liters and 500 liters
                contain 500 liters water in each as shown in the diagram. Bottom of which tank                                    experiences  greater pressure of water? Show by calculation. (3)


6. a. Define 1 Joule work. What do you mean by a CFL bulb of 11 watt? (1+1)
b. Work and energy are measured in the same unit, why? If a bullet of 100 gram is fired at the                  speed of 400 m/s then calculate the kinetic energy possessed by the bullet. (1+2)
7. a. Write any two points of difference between heat and temperature. (2)
b. Give reason: (2x1.5=3)
i. A kink is made near the bulb of a clinical thermometer.
ii. Alcohol thermometer cannot be used to measure temperature of boiling water.
8. a. Complete the given diagram and write any three natures of the images thus formed.
                                                           


b. The reflector of torchlight is made of concave shape. Why? Write any two points of                              difference between real and virtual image. (1+2)
9. a. Write two points of difference between proton and electron. (2)
b. Observe the nucleus of the following elements and indentify them. Also write their atomic                  weight. (3x1=3)

10. a. If the rate of movement of two pigments of a mixture in a medium is similar, is it possible                     to separate them? Give reason for your answer. (2)
b. What is mixture? Why cannot we separate the mixture of two liquids with nearly equal                        boiling point by distillation? (1+2)
11. a. What are metalloids? Write the name of chief ores of iron. (1+1)
b. Why does gold remain shiny for a long time? Which metal is extracted from the bauxite?                    Write three uses of copper. (1+0.5+1.5)
12. a. 'Bee farming is useful to a vegetable farmer'. Justify the statement. (2)
b. Why are different parts of the plant modified? Write any two points of difference between                    zygote and embryo. (1+2)
13. a. What is basement membrane? Define meristematic tissue. (1+1)
b. What is the main function of glandular epithelium? Write the name of animal tissues. (1+2)
